The Rains Came 1939

The Rains Came (1939)    Filmed in black and white with special effects that aren't bad considering the time period.  Edwina falls in love for the first time in her life but it is with a future maharajah during a time of disaster in Ranchipur, India.  Tom has a bad reputation and is pursued by a star eyed young woman but he becomes a invaluable aid to the maharani.  The future maharajah is steeped in medicine and dedicated to helping the poor, does he even notice Edwina?
I enjoyed this film and it has everything, I particularly like the era of Raj India.  Shouldn't the British wear more heavy clothing during the humid hot days before the rainy season?  Where is the special tea service and china, we cannot have tea without a proper tablecloth?  4* (I really liked this movie)

103 min, Romance, directed by Clarence Brown with Myrna Loy, Tyrone Power, George Brent, Brenda Joyce.

Note:  Blockbuster 4*, imdb 6.8 out of 10, 59% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
