Terraferma 2011

Terraferma     Ernesto, Fillippo and Giulietta are a family living on the Sicilian island of Linosa.  Ernesto is the grandfather of Fillippo and Giulietta is Fillippo's mother.  This is a very beautiful place but it’s difficult to make a living.  Ernesto and Fillippo take their worn out boat to fish but there has been a slump in fishing.  Many on the island have tried other means to make a living.  Giulietta has the idea of boarding tourists until they can make enough money to move to the mainland.  Political unrest in North Africa is causing many people to try to sail to Linosa and freedom.
Nothing seems to be working out for the family.  The boat is rotten, the propeller is bent by debris in the water and they are accused of assisting the North Africans. These people are routinely deported back to their county by the government.  The residents of Linosa have compassion for the immigrants and they don’t want them to be deported. 3 ½* (I liked this movie)

88 min, Drama directed by Emanuele Crialese with Filippo Pucillo, Donatella Finocchiaro, Beppe Fiorello, Mimmo Cuticchio, Marina Codecasa, Tiziana Lodato, Claudio Santamaria, Flipo Scarafia.

Note:  Imdb 6.8 out of 10, 68% critic 55% audience on Rotten Tomatoes, Film Crave 2.00/4.
