Wish I Was Here 2014

Wish I Was Here

Aidan Bloom is a struggling actor with two children and his wife works to support the family.  The children are going to a conservative Jewish school because Aidan’s father is paying for the tuition.  Aidan's father, Gabe has just learned his cancer has returned and he won’t have the money for the school bill.  He’s going to try an experimental treatment but he will need to pay for this himself.  Aidan and his wife Sarah reluctantly decide that Aidan will home school Grace and Tucker until the fall semester.  Both Aidan and his brother Noah are struggling with the return of Gabe’s cancer.
The characters are interesting and the film moves along with normal family problems.  But, there is a constant undercurrent of worry running in the background?  Children worrying about school, parents worrying about jobs and money, an older parent/grandparent worrying about illness and money.  Everything seems to be slightly light even with these heavy topics?  3* (This movie is OK)

106 min, Comedy directed by Zach Braff with Pierce Gagnon, Kate Hudson, Joey King, Zach Braff, Alexander Chaplin, Jim Parsons, Mark Thudium, Mandy Patinkin, Josh Gad, Alan Rich, Ashley Greene.

Note:  Imdb 6.7 out of 10, 46% critic 61% audience on Rotten Tomatoes, Roger Ebert 3*.
Special Note:  There are recurring scenes of a spaceman and a robot constantly running from a dark cloaked figure?  This film was co-written by Zach and his brother Adam Braff.  It was funded through a Kickstarter campaign with the money raised in 48 hours.
