Still Mine

Still Mine     This film is based on actual events.  Craig and Irene Morrison are slowly beginning to change as they age.  Craig is 87 years old and he has been married to Irene for 61 years.  Irene is showing the signs of early dementia.  They live in a large home with stairs since they had five children.  Irene falls on the stairs and Craig decides to build a smaller one-story home on their land to suit their needs.  His children don’t think this is a good idea and they think Irene needs to go to a home instead.  Craig is the son of a master shipbuilder and he decides to mill lumber from the trees on their property.
His friends recommend he at least get a permit and this starts a difficult regulatory process.  The inspectors don’t like any part of his project.  Craig has the right idea but everything has changed in this ‘modern day and age!’  He also has the right idea about Irene because she doesn’t want to go into a home and he doesn’t want her to go.  3 ½* ( I liked this movie)

102 min, Drama directed by Michael McGowan with James Cromwell, Ronan Reese, Genevieve Bujold, Julie Stewart, Rick Roberts, George R. Robertson, Hawksley Workman, Campbell Scott, Jonathan Potts, Barbara Gordon.

Note:  Imdb 7.4 out of 10, 93% critic 81% audience, Roger Ebert 3*.
Special Note:  This is the first leading role for James Cromwell even though he has been in many films.  He’s 73 years old and Genevieve Bujold is 71 years old.  She was born in Montreal, Quebec. The filming locations are in Canada.  There are some goofs in this film too.  Craig is seen using a hammer but a nail gun was used on the boards.  Irene is smoking at the beach and it is first half gone but then it’s new.  The newspaper at the end is in English on the front but French on the back.
