The DUFF 2015

The DUFF   This film is based on a book by Kodi Keplinger.  Bianca is doing OK in high school.  She gets good grades and she has two cool friends, Casey and Jess.  Everything is going well until she has a conversation with her neighbor Wesley.  He tells her that Casey and Jess really are not her friends but she is the designated ugly fat friend that makes them look better.  At first, Bianca doesn’t believe anything he says but then she starts to take a second look.  What choice does she have?  She turns to Wesley for tips since he seems right in his observations.

The truth is that Casey and Jess really like Bianca and they don’t think of her as the DUFF.  Bianca’s worst enemy is Madison.  She is a future reality star in her mind and everyone needs to fall into place to make that happen.  She says and means hurtful things but she doesn’t know how to act any other way.  I would not return to high school unless there was a huge pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!!  This film is better than a lot of the teen focused films.  3 ½* (I liked this movie)

101 min, Comedy directed by Ari Sandel with Mae Whitman, Bella Thorne, Robbie Amell, Bianca A. Santos, Sklyer Samuels, Romany Malco, Nick Eversman, Chris Wylde, Ken Jeong, Allison Janney, Rebecca Weil.
