Star Trek Beyond 2016

The USS Enterprise has halfway competed their five-year mission.  They stop off at Starbase Yorktown and this is a remote outpost on the fringes of Federation space.  An unstoppable wave of unknown aliens destroys the Enterprise.  The crew is now stranded on an unknown planet.  The only known fact about this planet is that there is a well-earned hatred of the Federation.  Their only hope is a female alien warrior who can possibly help the crews reunite and leave the planet.  They also need to stop a possible galactic war.
The plot of this film is very thin!!  It relies too much on CGI and the many battles one after the other.  The dialog is corny too!!  I did like the makeup, costume and character of the warrior woman Jaylah.  Supposedly, Jennifer Lawrence inspired this character and Algerian dancer and actor Sofia Boutella has this role.  3* (This movie is OK)

122 min, Action directed by Justin Lin with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Idris Elba.

Note:  Imdb 7.1 out of 10, 84% critic 81% audience on Rotten Tomatoes, Roger Ebert 2 ½*, Amazon 4.5* out of 5* with 2894 reviews.
Special Note:  Filmed in Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; Seoul, South Korea and Hollywood, Los Angeles California.  Star Trek and Stars Wars both released films in 2016.  This is the second time this has happened and the other time was 2002.  Yorktown was the original name of the starship in the early scripts for the 1966 Star Trek series.  Unfortunately, Anton Yelchin passed away due to an accident before the film’s release.  This film had a budget of $185 million and it grossed $343.5 million.  To break even, earnings needed to be $340-350 million worldwide.
