The original title is Neotpravlennoye Pismo, based on a book by Valery Osipove. Four geologists are searching for diamonds in the wilderness of Siberia on a long and tiresome journey. They manage to find a diamond mine and record it's location on their map. They must deliver this map to Moscow, they have reported by radio that they have been successful in their mission. On the day of their departure, a terrible forest fire begins to rage through their area trapping them in the flames.
Since this is a Russian film, you know the journey sets out without much hope of them accomplishing their goal. Siberia cannot be good, just the name gives you this idea and it's also filmed in black and white which adds to the somber tone. I thought this was a new movie but it is a re-release of the original. 3* (This movie is OK)
