This film is based on a book with the same title written by Samara Doyon and illustrated by Kaylani Juanita. It is an exploration of the natural world and family bonds. Homespun Brown is a young girl of mixed-race. She is a living, breathing, dazzlingly multi-faceted and exuberant young girl. She is firmly grounded in her sense of self-worth and belonging.
A series of young brown girls admire the many different brown in their environments and in their own images. The browns are deep secret brown like an eye color. Feathery brown like tree shadows on a hike. Amber brown like the color of eyelashes. Dark brown the color of honey and hair. Each girl is featured with family members or friends. They relate to nature by having fun or in reflective moments. 5* (I really liked this movie)
Note: I wasn't able to find reviews for the film but for the book. Amazon gives the book 4.8* out of 5* with 35 reviews, Goodreads 4.25* out of 5 with 230 ratings and 72 reviews, Target 5* and sold out. Video by Dreamscape.
