Rene Saavedra is an advertising executive in Chile. He is called upon to head the campaign
against military dictator Augusto Pinochet. Their financial resources are limited and they are under constant surveillance
by Pinochet’s people. Rene needs
to come up with a plan to free this country from oppression. The military coup has been in power
from 1973 for 15 years. There has
been intimidation, vote rigging, violence and murder. Pressure is being applied on Pinochet by his international
allies to have a referendum on his leadership. Yes means 8 more years of the same, no will mean free
elections. Pinochet believes he
can rally the people to support him and he does not have a chance of losing. There will be a 27 day period until October 5,
1988 for this campaign. Each side
will get 15 minutes of television airtime each day.
When this movie gets going, it’s just one television
commercial after another! Constantly showing the ads for the yes campaign and the no
campaign. It’s in Spanish with
subtitles so you do have to pay attention to be involved but this is not worth
the effort. 2* (I didn’t like this
movie)
