The charred corpse of policeman Harry Fenton is discovered at an abattoir known for rule-bending. He is found on the day of his retirement? An abattoir is defined as a building where animals are killed for food. His colleagues tell Vera he seemed distracted and he lied to his wife Rita regarding his whereabouts. CCTV shows one of the drivers for a haulage firm, Naz Ahmed making a delivery to the abattoir around the time of Harry's murder.
Vera learns from Gareth Hennings, the son of Harry's best friend Jesse, that Harry had been investigating Naz and other drivers. He was looking for fraud and money laundering. Vera believes that Harry was murdered to prevent him reporting the goings on at the haulage company. She faces a barrage of lies to unravel before she can definitely solve the case. 5* (I really liked this episode)
