Jake Lever is a cardiologist, his older brother Ben is a rabbi. Ben passes away suddenly and Jake soon learns about one of the Jewish laws. The younger brother must marry the wife of the older brother in order for his name to continue. Leah and Jake both decide they will accept an alternate ceremony which will free Jake from his obligation. The elders start the ceremony and it is going well until Jake is asked to deny the existence of his brother Ben. Jake and Leah ask to take a break. Jake tells Leah that he cannot deny the existence of his brother. Their only choice now is for them to get married and Jake's girlfriend Carol does not take this situation very well.
This is enjoyable even though predictable. Leah starts going to a different Synagogue in Washington DC where Jake lives and the woman Rabbi is surprised to learn that this part of Jewish law is still being practiced. 3 1/2* (I liked this movie)
