Mother of George 2013

Mother of George

A Nigerian couple living in Brooklyn is married in an elaborate wedding ceremony including all the customs from their homeland.  Time goes by and Adenike and Ayodele cannot seem to have a baby.  Adenike goes to a clinic but she cannot persuade Ayodele to have some medical tests.  He balks at the idea and the tests are expensive.  Her mother-in-law proposes several solutions to the problem but they are difficult choices.
The photography is beautiful and the Nigerian style of clothing is very distinctive.  A lot of emotions play out in this film pride, family customs, matriarchal advice, conflicts, modern life juxtaposed against modern city life.  This film is different and the acting is very good.  3 ½* (I liked this movie)

107min, Drama directed by Andrew Dosunmu with Danai Gurira, Isaach De Bankole, Anthony Okunbowa, Bukky Ajayi, Yaya Alfia, Klarissa Jackson, Ishmael Omolade.

Note:  Imdb 6.2 of 10, 92% critic 72% audience on Rotten Tomatoes, Roger Ebert 3*.
