This film is based on
a play by William Douglas Home. Cecil
learns that Evelyn, the love of his life, has lost her husband of 50 years. Cecil wanted to marry Evelyn but she
left and married another man. She
is coming by Cecil’s home for tea and conversation on her way to the
funeral. Hawkins, Cecil’s
manservant has also prepared tea for Evelyn’s Chauffeur.
I knew right away
that this film was based on a play.
There is a minimum of characters and one setting. How could Cecil think he can persuade a
woman who just lost her husband of 50 years and is on her way to his funeral to
marry him at this time?? Wouldn’t
waiting for a more auspicious time be conducive to a yes answer? How can using her trip to suit his own
means work out at all for him? 2*
(I didn’t like this movie)
