The setting is now 1964 and two new nuns, Sister Hilda and Sister Frances join the Nonnatus House staff. Cathy is an aspiring model ands has recently had an abortion. She is not married, she wants to continue with her career and move up in the modeling business. Abortions in the UK in most circumstances are illegal. Cathy’s sister Valerie wants to find out who did this and she wants the police to take action against the practitioner. Cathy won’t disclose who she went to for the procedure? Sister Julianne is elated that she was not selected as the new Mother Superior and she is back with the midwives. Sister Monica Joan is still having problems with her mind and she becomes very upset when the nurses’ old bags are to be burned. Sister Monica Joan doesn’t like anything to go to waste but the midwives have new bags?
There has been a change in Poplar and many of the expectant mothers are more in favor of a hospital delivery? This type of delivery is very helpful when there are unusual circumstances and a home delivery by the midwife will not be appropriate. The midwives and several special beds for women that may need extra attention or if they need to rest more before a birth. There are many of the same goings on in Poplar, everyone knows what everyone else is doing!! 5* (I really liked this series)
