Did You Hear About the Morgans? 2009

Meryl and Paul Morgan have separated because of his infidelity.  He's a Manhattan lawyer and he is trying to repair their marriage and seeking forgiveness.  Meryl has moved on and she is focusing on her real estate sales.  As Paul walks her to an appointment one evening to plead his case for reconciliation, they witness a murder and the murderer sees them!!  The FBI wants them in Witness Protection until the killer is caught.  They must do this immediately because he's already hunting them.  The FBI sends them to Ray, Wyoming.  This is a tiny ranch town where they stay with the aging Sheriff and his gun-toting wife (she is his Deputy).  Meryl and Paul must sort out their relationship while their New York City ways bump up against those of the West.  Meanwhile, Meryl knows two things that Paul doesn't.  And, she is not about to tell him!!

This is funny but it does follow the basic formula of most romantic comedies.  There are elements that are fun and enjoyable.  It also shows the many changes involved when a couple moves from a large city to live in a small town.  Usually, everyone knows everyone else’s business in a small town.  In a large town it is impossible for this to happen!!  A big change like this can possibly help the Morgan’s with their marriage??  The removal of the pressures from a big city environment can let them relax.  Additionally, they are away from the other parties that were involved with them!!  3* (I liked this movie)

103 min, Comedy directed and written by Marc Lawrence with Hugh Grant, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sam Elliott, Natalia Klimas, Vincenzo Amato, Jesse Liebman, Elisabeth Moss, Michael Kelly, Seth Gilliam, Sandor Tecsy, Kevin Dotcom Brown, Steven Boyer, Sharon Wilkins.

Note:  Imdb 4.9* out of 10* with 38,084 reviews, The Guardian 3* out of 5* Peter Bradshaw, Amazon 4.** out of 5* with 976 reviews, Common Sense Media Sandie Angulo Chen, 1* out of 5*, age 13+, 1* positive role models, drinking drugs & smoking, 2* positive messages, violence, sex, language, 3* consumerism, Letterboxd 2.2* out of 5*, Roger Ebert 1 1/2*.

Special Note:  As of 2018, Hugh Grant starred in all the four features directed by Marc Lawrence.  This one is the third.  Grant plays a romantically-involved character in all of the films and he is paired with a different actress or actresses each time.  Meryl's wedding vows to Paul are, ”Let me not to the marriage of true minds…"  These vows are taken from William Shakespeare's Sonnet 116 published in 1609.

Mistakes:  An experienced shooter like Emma would never allow a first-timer like Meryl to hold and fire a rifle as depicted in this film.  By pressing her cheek against the side of the rifle while failing to secure the stock firmly with her shoulder, Meryl would likely have seriously injured herself as a result of the recoil produced by firing.  This was demonstrated in the same scene when Paul injured his shoulder despite holding the rifle more correctly.  When the Morgans fly out of New York City, it is obviously bright daylight.  However, when they arrive in Wyoming it seems to be twilight.  Unless the jet is very slow or they had a layover, this is impossible!!  New York City is in the Eastern Time Zone and Wyoming is in the Mountain Time Zone.  Therefore, they would have GAINED 2 hours when flying toward the west.  It should have still been bright daylight.  2 1/2* (I thought this movie was so-so)
