The filmmaker Mads
Brugger establishes himself as a wealthy European-African consul. His
purpose is to expose corruption and profiteering in the Central African
Republic of Liberia. He has multiple hidden cameras and credentials
purchased from back-market sources. He becomes part of the underworld of
unscrupulous bureaucrats, blood diamond smuggling, bribery and murder.
This film is
muckraking nonfiction, a performance piece and a nervy documentary somewhat in
the style of Sacha Baron Cohen but this is reality. I could not get into
this movie and become interested. I’m not sure if it’s the filming
style, it is different but it all seems too unreal to be true plus it’s all
talking and meetings? 2 ½* (I didn’t like this movie)
93 min, Doc directed by Mads Brugger
with Colin Evans, Dalkia Gilbert, Eva Jakobsen, Varney Sherman, Albert.
Note: Blockbuster 3 ½*, imdb 7.2
out of 10, 76% critic 75% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
