This is a period film about a psychotic
serial killer using the writings of Edgar Allan Poe as the inspiration for his
crimes. Poe joins forces with a
Baltimore detective to catch this criminal and end his crime spree.
A lot of gruesome murder scenes but the rest
of this film is very weak with no real attempt to portray the life of Poe. Cusack is just going through the
motions and the other actors fall into line behind him. A film about such a famous author
should have more dignity than being just another serial-killer project. 2 ½* (This movie is so-so)
110 min, Mystery directed by
James McTeigue with John Cusack, Luke Evans, Brendan Gleeson, Alice Eve, Oliver
Jackson-Cohen, Kevin McNally.
Note: Blockbuster 3*, imdb 6.4 out of 10, 22%
critic 48% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
