Skunk
is the nickname for an 11-year-old girl living on a three family cul-de-sac in
a London neighborhood. She has
Type 1 diabetes, she must test her blood sugar at regular intervals and give
herself injections of insulin.
It’s very important that she watches what she eats and is careful about
her testing. Skunk witnesses her
angry older neighbor, Mr. Oswald beating Rick, a teen boy in the
neighborhood. Rick is learning
disabled, psychologically troubled and he doesn’t know why he’s getting this
beating. Mr. Oswald’s daughter has
lied and accused Rick of assaulting her.
Skunk is on summer vacation but she’s very worried about the stories
about being bullied she’s heard about moving up a grade but being at the lowest level in this
school. Skunk feels her life is
turning into constant chaos.
There
are some good ideas among the redundant, uninteresting violence, swearing, lies,
dysfunction, pain and continual problems propelling this film. It becomes wearing quickly and you want
to learn the outcome but it’s confusing with some of the events out of order. 2* (I didn’t like this movie)
