This film is based on
a radio play titled Goodby written by British comic performer Morwenna
Banks. Jess came from America in
1986 to live in the UK. She met
Milly right away on the first day of elementary school and they became good friends. They have shared a lot, first kisses,
secrets, clothing and dating stories.
Jess is a town planner and she lives with her boyfriend Jago on a
houseboat. It is floating on a
London canal. Milly has a big job
and lives in a townhouse with her husband Kit and their son and daughter. Jess doesn’t say anything about it to
Milly but she has been trying to have a baby. Milly finds out she has cancer but she’s going to get
chemotherapy.
I thought this film
had a lot of potential, Barrymore and Collette are great together. It doesn’t break any new ground
and falls into clichés and stereotypes.
This is probably a trend but I wonder about the constant bright red
lipstick for Barrymore and the white hair for Bisset? 3* (This movie is OK)
