The refugee people
are from the Thailand-Burma border region and they are called Karen (Kah-REN). There is estimated to be about seven
million Karen people. Their
language is written using Burmese script.
Hundreds of thousands of Karen people were killed in the conflict in
Myanmar during the 60-year civil war.
About 140,000 made it across the border to refugee camps in Thailand. There
was a major effort to resettle the Karen, about $160,000 came to America and
more than 10,000 refugees came to Minnesota. There are communities of Karen in Indiana, New York, New
Jersey, Arizona and Texas. The
Karen people usually plant gardens with tomatoes, corn, other vegetables and they
raise chickens. This film is good
and there are surprises you don’t expect!! There are also grumpy people with their own interests and they want everything to remain the same!! 3 ½* (I liked this movie)
