This film is based on
a best-selling novel by Oliver Sacks.
Frederik Halling is a successful headmaster at a school in Sweden. His personality begins to change and he learns he
has a brain tumor. He goes to
trial for embezzling from the school where both he and his wife Mia work. The tumor is thought to have caused
Frederik to invest money from the school unwisely and the school may be forced
to close due to bankruptcy. Mia is thrown for a loop
and she wonders if the three happiest years of their marriage were because of
the tumor? Did Frederik make his
investing choices because of his free will or under the influence of the tumor?
This film isn’t easy
to follow but close attention needs to be given to the film because of the
subtitles. There is a LOT of medical information about the inner workings of the brain? They seem difficult to follow plus are they necessary to further the narrative? Are some scenes true or are they imagined? Frederik was taken to
the hospital because he was driving dangerously fast on a mountainous road with
his wife and son. He either fell
or flung himself of an embankment when they stopped. The tumor was discovered after his fall. 3* (This movie is OK)
