This film represents the 100th
milestone of movies for Jackie Chan.
It is a historical drama set in 1911 as the Chinese people begin to
revolt against the Qing dynasty.
As a child emperor takes the throne, they have ruled the country for 250
years. The real ruler of the
country is Empress Dowager Longyu.
Famine is sweeping the land and warring factions fight in battle. The army of the throne begins to target
the rebels and the waning dynasty begins rampant trading with foreign
countries. Huang Xing returns from
studies of modern warfare in Japan.
He realizes the only hope for his country is to topple the Qing dynasty
but this action will be devastating for the common people.
I found it very difficult to pay attention
to this film. It goes back and
forth between intense battle scenes and discussions. Seems like too little payoff for reading the subtitles and I
don’t know much more about the revolution. 2* (I didn’t like this movie)
