Taiga is in Siberia and this film focuses on the village of Bakhtia at the
river Yenisel. The 300 indigenous
people make their living mainly by trapping in the subarctic forest. Their daily lives have not changed very
much over the last centuries. The
cultural traditions of one of the trappers is shown through the four seasons of
the year. Chain saws, outboard
motors and snowmobiles have lightened their load slightly.
This is interesting and almost beyond our comprehension due to the
immense differences between this small village and traditional civilization of
today. You really need to know
what you are doing in order to survive and meet your basic needs.
3 ½* (I liked this movie)
