This film is based on
a short story by Louisa May Alcott.
Mary Bassett lives out in the country on a farm in New Hampshire just
after the Civil War. She has three
children, Mathilda, Prudence and Solomon.
They are poor but they manage to get by. Mary treats the sick and Mathilda also has a small job. Their husband/father has died in the
war and this Thanksgiving may be a sparse one. Mathilda has secretly written to her wealthy grandmother and
she is hoping for help with their situation. Mary will not be happy if she finds out about the letter.
This is not what I expected, I
thought it was a modern day movie? I thought it was interesting and
good. The characters are well
developed and you really care about the family. 3 ½* (I liked this movie)
