Beatriz at Dinner 2017

     Beatriz arrived in Los Angeles as an immigrant from a poor town in Mexico.  She has built up a practice using holistic medicine.  She goes to treat her client Kathy and Beatriz can’t get her old car to start.  Beatriz tells Kathy that a mechanic friend is going to come by after he gets off work to look at the car.  Kathy suggests that Beatriz have dinner with them that evening.  Kathy’s husband Grant is not sure about this because he is having his boss and business clients come to this dinner.  Shannon arrives with her husband Alex and they begin discussing how much money they will make off this latest business venture.  Doug arrives later with his wife Jeana and he is Grant’s boss.  Everyone moves outside to talk and Beatriz is introduced to the guests.  She tells Kathy that her mechanic friend won’t be able to come until tomorrow.  Kathy suggests that Beatriz spend the night.  Beatriz learns that Doug had previously developed a building project in her area in Mexico and there had been protests.  Beatriz explains to the group that the promised jobs and opportunities for her community didn’t happen and the building destroyed the area.

     It was a mistake for Kathy to invite Beatriz to the dinner.  She’s not appropriately dressed and she doesn’t fit in with the other people.  She is the opposite of everything they believe and stand for.  Beatriz believes in people and life.  They believe in the business of making money.  I didn't think there was any comedy?  2* (I didn’t like this movie)
