This film is based on
an award winning young adult novel by Katherine Paterson. Katherine also wrote Bridge to
Terabithia. Gilly Hopkins is 12
years old and she’s moving to another foster home. Right away, she wants to escape her new foster mother Maime Trotter by gathering
enough money for a trip to San Francisco.
She saw her mother’s address in her caseworker’s file and she thinks she can go
live with her. Gilly also writes a
letter about how terrible it is to live with Maime Trotter and another
foster child, called W.E. Gilly tries to
belittle her math teacher Ms. Harris.
It’s a weak attempt and Ms. Harris has had a lot worse treatment in her
years as a teacher. Ms. Harris says she has not had such a laugh from a note in a long time!!
Gilly is very tough
to get along with for everyone at the foster home and everyone at school. She has a very large chip on her
shoulder and she thinks living with her mother would be a dream come true? This is a good family movie. 3* (This movie is OK)
