Dan
Miller is married to Laura and they have a son, Adam. Dan is hearing, Laura is deaf and Adam was born hearing but
became deaf. They are very happy,
Laura is a teacher at a deaf school and Adam goes to the same school. Dan and Adam are getting ready for a
big birthday party for Adam. Adam
chases a balloon and falls over his bike, he goes to the Emergency Room and
needs stitches but he’s OK. The ER
doctor mentions that Adam would be a good candidate for a cochlear
implant. This is a new device that
would enable Adam to hear again.
Warning,
this is a Hallmark Movie! Just the
mention of the idea of a cochlear implant sends Laura and her parents into a
tailspin. Laura’s father is also
deaf and he has “deaf prejudice.”
This means he has very definite strong ideas about deaf people and the
idea that they are “handicapped.”
This is good, a lot of information I didn’t know. 3 ½* (I liked this movie)
