Jessica
Drummond’s husband dies after an illness of a couple of years. She is having trouble dealing with the
loss and when her two boys go away to school, she becomes very lonely. She’s never really been on her
own. She married her husband at
seventeen and before that she was with her domineering mother. She decides to go to Lake Tahoe with
her friends Ginna and Cary Abbott.
She gets lost while skiing and she meets Major Scott Landis. She doesn’t want to cause tongues to
wag in her hometown but Scott is being transferred to the same area where she
lives.
Jess
is only 30 years old but the community believes she should be proper and a
widow for the rest of her life!!
Her young boys become upset after they hear stories about their mom at a
New Year’s Eve party. This is interesting
with the small town mind set, I liked the cars and the styles of this
period. 3 ½* (I liked this movie)
94
min, Drama directed by Curtis Berhardt with Barbara Stanwyck, George Brent,
Warner Anderson, Lucile Watson, John Ridgely, Eve Arden, Jerome Cowan, Esther
Dale, Scotty Beckett, Bobby Cooper.
Note: Imdb 7.1 out of 10, 50% audience on Rotten Tomatoes,
Special Note: This film was completed in 1944
but not released until 1946.
During this time, movies were being kept for viewing longer in theaters
and there was a back long of films until after the war ended.
