No Orchids for Miss Blandish

No Orchids for Miss Blandish     This film is based on a novel by James Hadley Chase.  John Blandish is worth $100 million and he has a daughter who is going to marry Foster Harvey.  He loves her but he thinks she is cold and unfeeling but she feels her life is very restricted.  A couple overhear them talking about their plans for the evening and the fact that she will be wearing $100,000 worth of diamond jewelry.  The man of the couple is a thug and he peddles the information he has for some money.  There are two gangster groups in competition with each other and one of these groups plans a robbery.  It doesn’t go as expected, Miss Blandish is kidnapped, her fiancee is killed and two of the gangsters are killed.  Ma Grisson is in charge of one of these groups and she plans to ask for ransom but kill Miss Blandish after they get the money.  Ma believes Miss Blandish has see too much and she knows too much to be set free.
All of the gangsters are rough customers, they don’t care who they double cross and they don’t care who gets killed as long as it’s not them.  They are after money and how they get it doesn’t matter.   Some aspects of the plot seems a little unlikely?  3 ½* (I liked this movie)
92 min, Crime directed by St. John Legh Clowes with Jack La Rue, Hugh McDermott, Linden Travers, Walter Crisham, MacDonald Parke, Danny Green, Lilli Molnar, Charles Goldner, Zoe Gail, Leslie Bradley, Richard Nielson.
Note:  Imdb 6.1 out of 10, 38% audience on Rotten Tomatoes, TCM 2.8* out of 5*, Amazon 4.3* out of 5* with 7 reviews.
Special Note:  This film is a British production and there was a four-page article in LIFE Magazine because of the uproar caused by its cold-blooded brutality and sexuality.  The actors are English and attempting American accents plus American gangster dialog.  I like her expression and torn dress on the DVD cover!!
