Alice
Sycamore is working as a stenographer for Tony Kirby. Tony is the son of Anthony P. Kirby and he is the head of this company.
Alice and Tony are in love but the Kirby family may not approve of this
match. Alice lives with her
grandfather Martin Vanderhof and their other relatives in the large family
home. Anthony P. Kirby wants to
buy out the entire block where the Vanderhof home is located. Martin Vanderhof doesn’t want to sell
and he is the last holdout. If the
Kirby Company can’t get the entire block, they don’t want any of the
property. Anthony P. Kirby is
trying to form a monopoly.
Everything
goes very badly when the Kirby’s visit the Vanderhof home for dinner. The Vanderhof's were expecting their company on
the next day but Tony wants his parents to meet the ‘real’ family and not one
dressed up to see them. The differences are night and day between these two families and they are miles apart in their ideas and lifestyles. The Vanderhof family wants to have fun
and they don’t care about money.
The Kirby family is wealthy but it's not enough, the parents strive for more
money ans social position. This is
funny and I liked the period details.
