The entire world is still in shock after the onslaught of WWII. U.S. General Douglas MacArthur and his
aide General Bonner Fellers pay a visit to Japan. They are there to decide if
Japanese emperor Hirohito should be tried and executed for war crimes. General Fellers unexpectedly reunites
with his lover Aya. She is a former
Japanese exchange student. She
taught him about Japan’s culture and customs. She is suddenly missing and he embarks on a mission to find
her. His journey opens his eyes to
the destruction of Japan.
This film did not get very good reviews but I thought it was enjoyable. The
addition of the romance between Fellers and Aya lightens the otherwise very
heavy war and destruction theme.
Jones makes me wonder if MacArthur was really like this, a lot of
swagger, huge corncob pipe and baggy pants? 3 ½* (I
liked this movie)
