Based on a novel by Edgar Rice
Burroughs, John Carter was a Civil War veteran who is still haunted by violence he encountered on the battlefield. He finds a cave with strange pictures and
writings, there is also a strange man. The man has a
silver medallion and he starts saying strange words. John Carter
repeats the words and finds himself on Mars. There is major conflict
and war, John Carter cannot escape being fully involved in the
battles. He meets Dejah Thoris, a Princess of Mars but she calls the
planet Barsoom, she has different names for the other planets of the
solar system also. She doesn't know if she can believe that John Carter
is from Earth, he'll have to prove it.
This movie has lots of
action and unusual creatures but it's too long, too many battles, too
much fighting, scheming and back stabbing. I found myself checking many times to
see how much time remained before it was finally finished. 3* (This
movie is OK)
