This film features
interviews with Maureen O’Hara and the people of Cong, County Mayo, Ireland, the Irish town where the Quiet Man
was filmed. Murphy’s was
originally a hardware store but it was made into a bar because scenes needed to
be filmed in a bar. It’s still a
bar now and still owned by the Murphy’s.
There is a painting of John Wayne on a post in the water of one of the
streams in the movie. John Ford
was from Ireland and the Quiet Man was a tribute to his homeland from his
memories and imagination. There is
also a focus on John Ford’s career and what people thought of him.
I haven’t seen the
quiet man but this documentary makes it seem very interesting especially with
this added behind-the-scenes information.
John Wayne marries Maureen O’Hara and there are many complications with
her family and her dowry. 3 ½* (I
liked this movie)
