The Best of Me 2014

The Best of Me

This film is based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks and it is the ninth book to be made into a film.  In high school, Amanda and Dawson were dating but they were from different backgrounds.  Amanda’s parents were wealthy, she was planning to go to college and become a lawyer.  Dawson’s dad and his two older brothers were from the wrong side of the tracks.  Dawson planned to get a scholarship and go to college too.  He had no support from his dad or his brothers, he lived with Tuck who gave him a place to live when he left home.  Now it’s 20 years later and Amanda and Dawson meet again after the death of Tuck.  Dawson has just survived a near drowning during a Louisiana offshore oil rig explosion.  Amanda is married and she has a son who is going off to college.
If you know what you are getting into before you watch this film, you can just go along for the ride.  Everything is going to go wrong, then it starts to get better and then wrong again, back and forth.  There is not a heartstring left that this film doesn’t pull.  Maybe Sparks makes a checklist before begins his novels and he marks it off as he goes along?  3* (This movie is OK)
