In
1955, the town of Northfork, Montana is nearly empty including the cemeteries. This area is going to be flooded for a new hydroelectric dam. A team of six men are sent by the power company to evacuate the last residents. A young orphan
who had been adopted is returned to the orphanage because he’s sick. The
parents don’t think he can make the car trip to their new home. Irwin is eight years old and he is between
a dream state and death. Father
Harlan is in charge of the orphanage and the church, he’s reading an account of
a previous evacuation.
It’s
difficult to tell what is reality and what is visionary in this film. The countryside is desolate open spaces. The team of six men have an added
reason to remove the stragglers, they have been promised waterfront property
after the flooding. The film is
shot like a black and white film even though it is in color and everything is
in shades of brown and black tones. I didn’t
care for this film because of the other-worldly aspect and there is not much
spark. 2 (I didn’t like this film)
