This
film is based on a fable written by Oscar Wilde. Arbor and Swifty are best friends and they are both thirteen
years old. They have been excluded
from school because of their behavior and they are outsiders in their
neighborhood. They begin
collecting scrap metal for Kitten, a local dealer, so they can earn money. Swifty has a gift with horses and Kitten
asks him to be a jockey for his horse.
Since Kitten favors Swifty more than Arbor, there becomes a wedge
between the boys friendship.
This
was filmed in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England and the speech of the people
almost needs subtitles to understand them. There is a lot of language and constant fighting. This area is filled with downtrodden people,
poverty and hard luck. The
basic themes of this film become wearisome over time. 2 ½* (This movie is just so-so)
