Oso Washington experienced the deadliest landslide in the United States. Earth the equivalent of
one million dump truck loads rushed into the valley during two separate slides. It took just over two minutes and close
to 50 homes were swept away by a pile of debris up to 75 feet deep. Geologists are tracing the history of
Oso to get information to use to warn residents of landslide events before the occur. Finding out the reason this area became
so unstable is very important in order to predict a future slide. There is a lot of rain every year in Oso and
this is predicted to increase with global warming. It is possible radar monitoring could provide warnings that
could save lives.
This
is very interesting. A mom was
holding her baby tight against her and she was pushing along with the debris while
still sitting on her sofa? Rescue
people had to cut her out of the sofa, she is injured but her baby is unhurt. The sister of one of the
rescue workers was driving her car when the road was hit by the landslide. She didn’t know what happened but she died instantly. When
they found her, she was still holding onto the steering wheel and her foot was on
the gas. 3 ½* (I liked this movie)
