This
film is based on a series of books by Janette Oke. Jack Thornton has returned to Coal Valley after delivering an outlaw
gang to justice. He plans to
resume his courtship of teacher Elizabeth Thatcher. When the stagecoach arrives in town, he’s very surprised to
see his former fiancé Rosemary LeVeaux step down from the coach. Rosemary broke off their engagement,
she wanted ‘more.’ She has
changed her mind since her attempts at an acting career in New York were not as
successful as she hoped. Elizabeth
doesn’t know anything about Jack’s former engagement and she’s very surprised
by Rosemary. Through the efforts
of her family back East, Elizabeth receives an offer to teach at a very
prestigious school. Abigail is
helping investigator Bill Avery prepare a case again the coal mine company
because of the death of 46 men including her husband and son.
The
town and people seem very realistic for the frontier period. This is about problems in the town and
relationships between the people living there. Everyone is trying to provide for their families and do
their jobs the best they can sometimes under trying circumstances. 3 ½* (I liked this movie)
