Paleontologist
Trevor Valle and archaeologist Tim King travel to the Siberian tundra on a
six-week expedition to search for prehistoric mammoths. There are many local hunters looking for
the tusks of the mammoths since they are worth a lot of money. They are running out of time and they
separate to explore two different regions. They find a frozen one year-old female wooly mammoth calf
named Lyuba who died 37,000 years ago.
She has been recently unearthed, she is very well preserved and they were
able to obtain hair, tissue, bone marrow and blood samples for study. It is very important that the sample is just
beginning to thaw because oxygen destroys these materials quickly.
The information is interesting and the photography really shows the area. The only problem is there is just
too much on camera talking from both the scientists. A disagreement has to be added with the men arguing over
both staying together or separating to cover more territory. 3* (This movie is OK)
