This film is an
adaptation of a 1930 William Faulkner novel.
The story is told from the different perspectives of a poor rural
Mississippi family. They are
determined to bury their mother Addie in her hometown of Jefferson. The family plot is much closer but they have made a promise to Addie. The journey is arduous and through difficult terrain made more so because of a recent rain storm. The family now consists of the father
Anse, sons Darl, Cash, Jewel, Vardaman and daughter Dewey.
There is nothing joyful about any scene in this film. Split screens are also used to divide the narrations. You just hope throughout the film that you never have to make any trip of this kind ever in your life!! This is the first film adaptation of this novel and many have considered it unable to be filmed? 3* (This movie is OK)
