At the age of fifteen in
1888, Therese pleads to enter the convent. She went to the Mother Superior, the Priest and to the Pope
to get permission because of her age.
She is hoping to become a Carmelite nun. The Mother Superior asks her to keep a journal of her time
at the convent. Her compliance to
all the rules and her devotion seems to sap all of her strength. In 1897, she dies of tuberculosis and
it’s a profound loss for the other sisters. They have come to love her as much as she believes in her
commitment.
Therese and her three other sisters all lived in the
cloistered community of Lisieux, Normandy. She became quite well known and the pilgrimage to the
Basilica of Lisieux is second only to Lourdes. She was called The Little Flower. A very quiet and slow moving film but not without joy and
happiness. 3* (This movie is OK)
