Dead Man Down 2013

Victor is a rising player in the crime world of New York.  He works for Alphonse, the crime boss who controls underworld.  Alphonse has been receiving small squares cut from a photograph and one of his best men is found dead in a freezer.  What the boss doesn’t know is that Victor is not who they think he is.  He’s a supposed to be on their side but he's a dead man risen from the grave.  His mission is to avenge the death of his wife and daughter.   Beatrice lives with her mother in an apartment across from Victor.  She has a story of her own.  She was hurt in a car crash that left her mentally shattered and one side of her face scarred.
Oplev directed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, this film seems like a blend of that slick tough style and Marvel Comics?  The body count is high and starts to add up from the beginning.  Another problem with this film is that Victor and Beatrice are people you don’t care about.  They don’t seem real and what happens to them doesn’t matter?  I also think Howard is miscast, he doesn’t seem tough enough to be the boss?   3* (This movie is OK)

118 min, Mystery/Suspense directed by Niels Arden Oplev with Colin Farrell, Noomi Rapace, Dominic Cooper, Terrence Howard, Isabelle Huppert, Armand Assante.

Note:  Blockbuster 3 ½*, imdb 6.5 out of 10, 38% critic 48% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
