Wallace Avery can’t
face the fact that he hates everything about his life. He hates his job, his ex-wife and his
son also hate him. He fakes his
own death by buying a new car and leaving his old car behind at a beach
campsite. He buys new identify
papers saying he is Arthur Newman.
Along the way on his road trip as a new man, he meets Mike. She’s also running away from her past. Her twin sister is in a mental hospital
and her mother also had mental problems.
She is afraid of going down the same path to mental illness. Arthur is on his way to a golf club for
a possible job as a pro instructor.
This is a very thin
road trip of self-discovery. OK
acting but nothing much to write home about. Maybe this would have been better in Britain with Blunt and Firth
using their normal accents? At
least another layer added. 2*
