After
the death of President Tito and the break of Yugoslavia, the black-market for
goods flourished. The Pink
Panthers were formed to undertake rapid and brazen robberies across Europe. High-end jewelry stores were targeted and
they were very careful plotting their hits. They don’t leave behind clues to their identities. There is immunity
in Serbia and Montenegro for their crimes. They’ve robbed 152 jewelry stores in Europe, Asia and the
Middle East since 2002. Their take
has been worth a quarter-billion dollars.
Animated characters and disguised voices protect the identity of two of
the people interviewed.
This
film seems a lot longer and because of directorial choices, you wonder about
the factual evidence? There is a
Robin Hood element but where are the poor receiving alms? Are difficult times a good enough
reason to smash and grab? 2 ½*
