Measure of a Man 2011

Measure of a Man

Donald Bailey was 15 years old when he left an Oklahoma orphanage bound for California during the depression.  He meets Emogene, she is the daughter of migrant farm workers.  They marry and set out to break the cycle in their family history of poverty and lack of education.  His daughter Elizabeth remembers her dad’s unique life, his charm, optimism and wonderful singing voice.  She is one of three girls in the family along with six boys for a total of nine children.
Wow, is all I can say about a family of nine children!  I knew a family with eight children and they had unique experiences having this many children.  The baby was left in the crib while everyone else was on their way to see the grandparents.  A quick u-turn was required.  Another time, one child was left in the car when everyone else went into a Church service.  Someone coming in from the parking lot reported this to the parents.  There was a kitchen fire when the oldest daughter was cooking.  I don't know how many other adventures happened that I didn't know about?   The Bailey’s seem to have it all together and these mix-ups don’t seem to happen.  The parents really are calm and can usually handle everything.  Interesting!  3 ½* (I liked this movie)
88 min, Drama directed by Andrew and Elizabeth Waite with Jarin Stevens, Jennica Schwartzman, Jules Hartley, Charlie Waite, Gabriel Myers, Madeline Penn, Travis Cluff, Lynn-Marie Beard.

Note:  Blockbuster 3*, imdb 6.5 out of 10.
