The Christmas Gift 1986

George Billings is an architect working in New York.  Alex is his young daughter and they are both feeling sad for Christmas because they lost their wife/mother last Christmas.  George works for Thomas Renfield and he’s being sent out on a job over the Christmas holidays.  George and Alex decide to get away from New York and spend their Christmas in Georgetown, Colorado.  Renfield wants to buy property in Georgetown to build an apartment and condominium community.  When George stays at the town with Alex, he sees how bad this new business venture will be for this community.  He tried to talk Renfield out of the proposal but he wants his company to move forward with or without George.
Everyone in Georgetown knows everyone else and they all believe in Santa Claus.  They have a ceremony with the retelling of a legend that happened in their community.  They have ‘letter’ day on Sunday at the Post Office and everyone in town mails a letter to Santa.  They have a Christmas program every year featuring the children and with singing afterwards.  George doesn’t want to see any of this wonder and belief change.  3 1/2* (I liked this movie)
