Pet Sematary 1989

The Creed family has moved to a new house in the countryside.  Louis Creed has taken a position as a physician in the local town.  He has a wife Rachel, a daughter Ellie and a young son Gage.  They meet their neighbor elderly Jud Crandall.  Dr. Creed is worried about Elle’s cat Church.  The road in front of their house is heavily traveled by fast moving semi-trailer trucks owned by the Orinco Oil Company.  Jud warns them that the trucks have sent a lot of pets to the local Pet Sematary.  There is a path beside the Creed home leading to this Sematary.
This film has 4 out of 5 for violence, 3 out of 5 for language, 1 out of 5 for consumerism, 2 out of 5 for drinking, drugs and smoking.  There is a lot of plodding in the script and the scary parts are not scary anymore.  There is a lot of creepiness too but more Halloween creepy.  Another problem is the characters don’t learn from their mistakes and they have a lot of uncalled for optimism!!  I would think that when parents find out the road they live on is daily and nightly traveled by high-speed semi-trailer trucks, they would immediately move to another location.  Especially when they have a pet and young children!!  Of course, that would leave no story!!  I read the book and I don't thin I've read any other Stephen King books?  I thought it was very scary!!  3* (This movie was OK)

103 min, Horror directed by Mary Lambert with Dale Midkiff, Denise Crosby, Fred Gwynne, Grad Greenquist, Michael Lombard, Miko Hughes, Blaze Berdahl, Susan Blommaert, Mara Clark, Kavi Raz, Mary Louise Wilson.

Note:  Imdb 6.6 out of 10, 50% critic 59% audience on Rotten Tomatoes, Amazon 4* out of 5* with 881 reviews,
Special Note:  The book on Amazon has 4.7* out of 5* with 4431 reviews.  Filmed in Acadia National Park, Hancock, Bangor, Bucksport and Ellsworth, Maine.  Jud mentions a dog went wild in a nearby town and the name of the dog was Cujo.  This is a reference to the 1983 novel by Stephen King.  King was present on location for most of the shooting.  His home is only 20 minutes away in Bangor.  Brad Greenquist said that because of his heavy makeup for his character, the cast and crew wouldn’t sit near him at lunch!!  Seven blue British Shorthair cats had the role of Church.  There is a Pet Sematary Two of 1992.
