Masterpiece Theatre: Van der Valk aired October 13, 2020

Piet Van der Valk is an engaging, unapologetic and street-smart detective.  He leads his dynamic team to solve mysterious crimes using astute human observation and inspired detection in and around contemporary Amsterdam.

I thought it was interesting see the Dutch city, businesses and apartments.  The actors have a pronounced British accent and they use a breezy clipped British slang.  In Amsterdam, people speak English with a characteristic international accent.  The Dutch pronunciation for the names of some of the main characters was not accurate either.  I also thought the actors were too glib at times and more interested in being hip than solving the crimes???  3 1/2* (I liked this series)

MPAA ratings PG-13 (Parents Strongly Cautioned) directed by Max Porcelijn, Jean Van De Velde, Colin Teague with Marc Warren, Maisie McCoy, Luke Aleen-Gale, Elliot Barnes Worrell, Darrell D’Silva.  Disc run time 4 hours and 30 minutes.

Note:  Imdb 4 1/2* out of 61 ratings, Amazon 4.4* out of 5* with 61 global ratings, Amazon 77% with 13 critic ratings, shop.pbs.org 5* with 5 reviews.

Special Note:  There is another series titled Van der Valk Mysteries: Set 1.  This is from 1972 and it is a Thames Television police show based on Nicolas Freeling’s fictional Dutch police detective starring Barry Foster.
