Nightcrawler 2014

Nightcrawler     Lou Bloom steels metal fencing and manhole covers to sell for scrap in order to make a living in LA.  He happens on the scene of a car accident and he talks to one of the freelance cameramen filming the action.  Lou decides he can do this and he thinks he can do it well.  He steals a bike to sell to a pawnshop so he can purchase a camera and a police scanner.  The footage he takes is sold to Nina Romina, a news director on a local TV news channel.  She is interested in being first on the scoop and she likes blood in the film, if possible.
Lou starts out creepy and he gets more so as the film goes along.  He doesn’t care what he needs to do as long as he gets the footage first.  It’s also not that he just doesn’t like people he doesn’t care about them.  Money rules his life plus ambition and praise for his work.  3* (This movie is OK)

117 min, Action directed by Dan Gilroy with Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Bill Paxton, Kent Shocknek, Pat Harvey, Sharon Tay, Rick Garcia.

Note:  Imdb 7.9 out of 10, 95% critic 86% audience on Rotten Tomatoes, Roger Ebert 4*.
Special Note:  Jake Gyllenhaal lost 20 pounds for his role as Lou Bloom.  He went from 180 pounds to 160 pounds by eating as few calories as possible and running 15 miles from his home to the film set.
