Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind 1984

The Earth has been destroyed in the far future during the Seven Days of Fire.  Now only small clusters of humanity survive.  One area is the Valley of Wind where Princess Nausicaa strives to understand and not destroy the Toxic Jungle.  There is also another nation intent on war with the Valley of the Wind.  This nation is lead by another Princess who is more warrior than peace.  Princess Nausicaa rides a glider called a Mehve.  The name is derived from the German word Mowe that means seagull.
There are many unusual and different animal characters in this film plus flying machines.  Princess Nausicaa understands the animals and she is trying to purify the soil to restore the plants.  The visuals are much more interesting on the BluRay release.  3 ½* (I liked this movie)

117 min, Animation directed by Hayao Miyazaki with the voices of Patrick Stewart, Uma Thurman, Edward James Olmos, Shia LaBeouf, Alison Lohman, Mark Hamill, Chris Sarandon.

Note:  Imdb 8.1 out of 10, 87% critic 91% audience on Rotten Tomatoes,
Special Note:  This film is based on an original story written by Mayao Miyazaki.  In order to create interest in the story, he wrote a comic book first to get the movie produced.  It is usually assumed that this film is from Studio Ghibli but it was produced by Topcraft before the formation of Studio Ghibli.
